Supplementary Classes

 

Our supplementary classes plan to continue strengthen and supports with the mainstream curricula taught in schools. The services we provide make a large appreciated contribution to the Somali children by addressing the underachievement and boost their confidence during their learning. The classes are run at IC New Park Road, Brixton Hill London SW2 4DU. We are passionate the undertaking initiatives ‘Aiming Higher Study Support Programme’. The programme provides language, cultural and educational support to mainly Somali students.

 

Mentoring Programme

 

Building on the successes of our mentoring programme, Aayatiin plans to roll out to provide mentoring besides Lilian Baylis Technology School, 323 Kennington Lane; Kennington, SE11 5QY and Stockwell Park Secondary School, Clapham Road, Stockwell SW9 0AL to Lambeth Academy and several other primary schools within the borough.

 

Community Consultation and Education Forums

 

We regularly organise a numerous of regular community cohesion, social and educational meetings, which brought Somali community, BME communities, residents, wider public, local authority and national authority to discuss ways of improving community inclusion and wider participation.

We undertake numerous activities including football, basketball, table tennis and athletics, which are be available to youngsters.

Somali Day

 

Aayatiin Foundation organizes an annual Somali Day as a part of refugee week. The main objective of the event is to promote and share Somali culture and traditions through cultural, educational and sports activities. The event also aims to build an understanding as a part of a community cohesion and integration.

Outings and Trips

 

We plan to organise day trips for children, their families and young people both during the weekends and school holidays to show them the most interesting and historical places. This is a part of integration process, as it helps our community to familiarise with British culture and break the current very stressful social isolations.  

Drop-in advice and information sessions

 

Aayatiin provides advice and information on and ad-hoc basis. We also provide telephone advice and information services. Our clients can make an appointment any time of the week. Surgery, Advice & Information are given on pressing issues such as: housing, health, welfare benefits and immigration. We also assist our clients with filling benefit forms and citizen related forms.

 

New Citizens

 

We assist clients in helping with filling forms of Travel Documents, British Citizenship/ Naturalisation and British Passports, Driving License, etc. This we aim to help clients to integrate and/or assimilate where necessary to the Wider British Society and promote their future well being to build their lives and self-confidences within the UK British Citizens. Furthermore, we assist clients with character references, fees, etc.

Welfare benefits

 

We support clients on their welfare rights to give advice and information about the public funding. We assisted those disabled, older people and/or with health problem for income maximisation forms by assisting with their Incapacity Benefit, DLA, Attendance Allowance, Severe Disability, Personal Care and Invalid Care Allowance, etc. We also help all clients with filling welfare benefit forms including income support, child benefit or child tax, housing benefit forms, etc; and also provide them advice and information on requirements to meet the criteria to obtain these incomes. We also assist with telephone help-line for their benefit enquires and translate benefit letters for those with language barriers.

Employment and Training needs

 

We assist unemployed clients of whom mainly are young people to provide them practical advice and information on employers. We assist them to improve their English language and training skills to get appropriate qualifications, etc, enter UK labour market. We also contact on their behalf to educational institutions to obtain appropriate courses that could help them to equip or upgrade their knowledge, so as to be able to work in UK. We also help clients with filling employment application forms and write letters of character references and recommendations to get the job they were looking for.

ESOL, Literacy and Numeracy Classes

 

We are in a process of establishing a provision of ESOL, Literacy and Numeracy classes to many newly arrived refugees and asylum seekers.
